A planning map for a putative trip down San Mateo Creek to the military reservation boundary. Possibly 3 days if moving well. More likely 4 days due to slow difficult nature of lower San Mateo Creek above the mil res bdy.
FOUR DAY ITINERARY
Day 1: Start at Tenaja Falls or Fishermans Camp trailheads. Hike to a campsite of some sort, possibly at the junction with the W. Clark Trail ("Clark Camp") or in the oak grove 0.7 miles downstream of the junction with the W Clark Trail.
Day 2: XC down canyon with an overnight somewhere near the mil res bdy. Hopefully reach bdy on day 2.
Day 3: Hike back up canyon to campsite used on Day 1.
Day 4: Hike out to the original trailhead.
THREE DAY ITINERARY
Day 1: Start very early at Fishermans Trailhead. Hike approximately 7.2 miles to just below the fairly large oak grove down stream from the junction with the West Clark Trail. Camp just down stream of the oak grove.
Day 2: Leave all overnight gear in place and hike about 4 miles to the reservation boundary, turning back at or before the gaging station or earlier if so indicated by a fence or similar physical indicator. Upon reaching the boundary, turn around and hike back to the previous night's camp site.
Day 3: Hike out to the original trailhead.
