This approach skips the cairn turnoff described in the MountainProject page (marked as 'Cairn' on map at GPS: N44° 21.039 W121° 51.916) and continues south along the PCT until hitting the gentle toe of the West Ridge at a small clearing and heading up from there. We felt this was a very comforable approach that avoided any scree. We descended the NW scree slopes for a few hundred vertical feet to the 'scree trail' at ~7100' which is much easier traveling. NOTE: our actual start was on the west side of Big Lake ('Alternative start'), following the marked trails until GPS 44°21.963', -121°52.073' where it connects with track marked on this map. However I think the east side of Big Lake is a more logical approach and avoids trampling through some restoration areas when coming from west side. The blue track is our actual recorded track with purple as the suggested start of approach.
