Possible BP trips: 1) Bear Canyon to Oak Flats and Fox Spg. Water uncertain; possibly Serrano Spg; possibly Fox Spg. Exploratory. 16 mi RT, 2 days 2) San Mateo short loop: Bear Canyon to Oak Flats to San Mateo Creek via Bluewater trail returning via N Tenaja Trail. Water at San Mateo Crk. 19.5 mi RT, 2 days. 3) San Mateo medium loop: Bear Canyon to Four Corners to San Mateo Creek via N Tenaja Trail, San Mateo Trail to Tenaja Falls, Morgan Trail back to Bear Canyon trailhead. Water at San Mateo Crk. 20.5 mi RT, 2 days. 4) San Mateo long loop: Bear Canyon to Morgan Trail to Tenaja Falls to Fishermans Camp to Beach and Bluewater Camps then Oak Flats via Bluewater trail and return to Bear Canyon, Water at San Mateo Crk. 23.3 miles, 2 days. 5) Hot Spgs Can - Blue Jay Loop - 19.6 mi RT with car shuttle or 20.4 mi RT without car shuttle. 4000+ feet of gain!! Water presumed at Blue Jay CG; must verify. Campsite presumed at Blue Jay; must verify. 2 days. 6) San Mateo down canyon exploration. Start at Fisherman's Camp and go down San Mateo Creek to Camp Pendleton. 18 to 20 mi RT depending on where the Camp Pendleton boundary is exactly. Not high miles but probably need 2 days in, 2 days out, due to rough, trail-less terrain. 4 days total. Water in San Mateo Crk. 7) Modjeska Grade Rd - Modjeska Pk (or Santiago Pk), 20.8 mi RT, 3 days. Very steep from Old Camp to Main Divide Road. Day 1: Modjeska Grade Rd to Old Camp. Day 2: Old Camp to Modjeska Pk and return. Day 3: Old Camp to Modjeska Grade Rd. Can be done in two days, but much harder. 8) In good rain years, Chiquito Falls could be done as a backpacking trip, 4.3 mi each way. 2 Days. Day Trips: 1) Ladd Canyon Spg - 12.6 mi RT - 4000' gain 2) Pinos Pk - 13.4 mi RT - **4500' gain**
