Two attempts made to summit some local peak. The first visit we thought Mount Goode, Gilbert, or Thompson, so we went off trail in hopes of setting up camp at the base of one of these. The contours don't tell the story loud enough: OFF TRAIL HIKING IS MUCH MORE CHALLENGING. It took hours just to set up where we did and even then, we were too far from any of the peaks, so we had to bail the next day (lesson learned). On our second visit, we set up on a much closer peak. Even then we got up early and tried our way up, but since there is no official trail for hikers (only mountaineering routes), we had no idea if this was possible, but we would explore and see. Our first attempt failed because it didn't seem like we could make it back down safely. We almost gave up but saw the northern side and tried it, and kept trying, and eventually decided to go for it. We were always ready to turn back, but didn't have to. Eventually we made it to the top. The rest is history.
