I hiked the John Muir Trail southbound, from Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney, exiting at Whitney Portal. For a Trip Report see: https://hikingtales.com/sierra-nevada/john-muir-trail/ Key to "Purple Tent" Day Dxx notes: Far Out app JMT mile number, total miles hiked, elevation at campsite location, total feet climbed, total feet descended, total steps taken (using a Garmin Enduro 3 smartwatch), Date hiked/camped, water location(s), name of place camped. When there are pluses and minuses on the daily mileage and elevation gains it is because I had to fudge for when I skipped some JMT or took a side trail; if you look at the map it all makes sense. Or read my trip report. "F" in a circle is where I left myself a FOOD Cache. I sent a 7-day bucket of food to Muir Trail Ranch but the others I dropped off myself using my car. Red Dots are mostly for passes, but also other highlights After dropping off the food, I left my car at the end, at Whitney Portal. I hitched down to Lone Pine, stayed in a motel, took an ESTA bus to Bishop, then another to Mammoth Lakes, stayed at a motel in Mammoth, then took the early YARTS bus to Yosemite Valley, and a valley shuttle to Happy Isles.
