Syunik: Phantoms of the Vorotan Gorge A one-way hike through the dramatic Vorotan River Gorge in southern Armenia, following Day 3 of the official Legends Trail of Syunik. The route connects three completely abandoned medieval villages — Hin Khot, Hin Shinuhayr, and Hin Halidzor — each perched on cliffsides with centuries of history locked in their stone walls. Hin Khot, known as the "Armenian Machu Picchu," is the crown jewel of the trail, with cave dwellings carved directly into volcanic rock faces above the gorge. Along the way, hikers pass the 17th-century Kusanats Hermitage, ancient khachkars, a hidden waterfall, and sweeping panoramas over one of Armenia's deepest canyons. Distance: 10.6km | Duration: ~4 hours | Difficulty: Medium | Elevation: 1,484m → 1,116m.
